What’s inspiring me in spring 2016

It’s time for us to bloom!

Sunday was the first day of spring, or the spring equinox and it was a beautiful day in the Magnolia State. Right near my apartment, I’m beginning to see the trees and flowers come to life again and it’s a beautiful sign of renewal.

I actually spent the last week in a renewal period for this blog.  I was in a difficult rut, lost for content ideas and just feeling uninspired. I knew it was time to search for inspiration and provide a fresh perspective for Down-Home Damsel. And I believe great things are to come, and it makes me excited for the next few months ahead!

Weddings, seasonal produce and recipes and fresh, bright colors are just a few things inspiring me during this energizing season.

Here’s what else has caught my eye…

Juicy strawberries and the freshness of seasonal ingredients.

I scored big on fresh strawberries last week at the grocery store. The store finally received some juicy berries from Florida and I was so pumped! What was even better was that I could buy three regular containers for $5.

As the fruits and vegetables begin to ripen, I am reminded of all the fresh, light dishes that come with spring—sweet salads, chunky salsa and flaky fish from the Coast. I can’t wait to bring some scrumptious recipes to the blog for you to try!

Shoes that bring out our wild side.

The shoe trends for this spring are so playful and different from the past few seasons. From peep-toed mules to lace-up flat sandals, my favorite so far would have to be these lace-up block heel sandals. I bought a black wedge pair similar to these at Nordstrom Rack over the weekend and they will be a shoe staple for me all season long. I’ll wear them with everything from maxi dresses, white skinny jeans to a short, flirty skirt.

The colors of spring 2016

I’m so fascinated by trend forecasting and how designers predict the colors and styles that will be all rage within the next year. This spring’s color report is bursting with colors of land, sea and nature. Different shades of blue, light pink and a good neutral are my favorites. I recently just purchased a leather purse in a rose quartz and it’s my new bag for the season! I can’t wait to tote it around to the office and for off-duty events.

Weddings with a serene ambiance, muted colors.

Wedding season is in full bloom, and it seems like everywhere we turn, there are couples exchanging their vows and tying the knot. My brother’s wedding is just three weeks away and I’m so happy for him and my future sister-in-law. And speaking of my SIL, she has amazing taste. Her wedding decor is simple, elegant and totally Pinterest-worthy.

I’m in love with weddings that bring clarity and unmask the glitz and glamour of a one-day celebration. I appreciate weddings that have muted colors of eggshell, soft blues and other serene hues. It lets the guests and the couple focus on the most important thing: the love that two people share!

Jewelry with beautiful stones.

Necklaces have always been my favorite accessory and the vibe will stay the same this spring. Pendant necklaces encrusted with amethyst, pyrite, agate and others are inspiring me to pull on my flowy cotton blouses and enjoy the sublime weather that spring brings.

Thanks for taking the time to read! I hope my inspirations get you excited for the best time of the year! What is inspiring you this season? I would love to hear about it in the comments below. Don’t forget to like my page and follow me!
