My resolutions for 2016

I can’t believe it’s been five months since I wrote my first blog post. I remember my mom and I were leisurely dining at my French kitchen table, eating a light meal and talking about dreams.

She suggested I start a blog because I love cooking, styling outfits and living a healthy lifestyle. And even though this “blog” was in my head, the reality of it hadn’t yet come. We’ve had this conversation many times. But this time, the idea stuck.

Now as I reminisce, I’m so happy that I went out on a limb and did it! Even though it’s challenging sometimes, I do love sharing recipes, style tips and ways to maintain a balanced life every day.

As for New Year’s resolutions, I’m partial to the idea because I think you should do good things for yourself all year long! But, I did make a small list for myself just to get motivated for the much-anticipated year ahead.

Here are a few of my resolutions and what’s to come for Down-Home Damsel in 2016.

Volunteer more.

I truly feel like I should give back more. I try to give back in little ways every day, but I want to get out in the community and really help others, especially women. I plan to get more involved with my church here in Mississippi and find ways to serve.

Become stronger (mind & body).

Yoga has changed my life for the better in so many ways. I’m more at ease, I have more patience and I just feel good all the time. It’s a magical exercise that renews my mind and body every day. So in the new year, I want to continue building strength and challenge my body with more advanced poses.

Take better photographs.

For Christmas, I received a Canon Rebel camera and I’m so pumped to learn how to take better photos. I want to capture beautiful memories and take great pictures for this blog, of course.

Change up my recipe repertoire.

In 2015, I really stepped up my cooking game and experimented with new flavors and ingredients in the kitchen. But I also desire to master one or two amazing dishes. What could be better than whipping up a hearty, delicious French bolognese last minute for guests?

As for the blog…

Post more recipes that cater to a balanced lifestyle.

I often publish healthy recipes that are rich in super foods and perfect for a light lunch or dinner. But I want to take this a step further and post more about meal planning, meal prep and what to stock in your pantry. Life is so busy with all its twist and turns and I want to show you how I eat healthy during the week with minimal cost and time!

Be bold with personal style.

Fashion was so exciting in 2015. Nowadays, I feel as if anything goes and you really don’t have to stick to one trend or one classic piece. I have really enjoyed creating new looks for everyone and hopefully inspiring you to get dressed in the morning! I will also post about cleaning out your closet and only keeping the pieces you love, which will be a challenge for me.

What are your goals for the new year? Let me know in the comments below! I hope everyone has a wonderful new start to the new year.

I want to eat healthier and exercise more regularly. Also to get more involved in charitable community activities. I believe reading your blog will help me keep on these goals. Thanks and Happy New Year to you!
