My favorite things | May 6

The weekend is almost here! I hope you’re planning to do something special with the women you love in your life! My mom and I will be spending Mother’s Day packing up my apartment. I move into my new apartment in almost a week, and she’s coming earlier in the week to help out. Amid bubble wrap and cleaning out, I’m excited to have some girl time and catch up on life.

A lot will be going in the next week, so if my posts are lagging, you will know why! This week, there was a lot to be thankful for. Blessings have continued to flow throughout my life as well as through my family’s life. God is truly good, in every way. Monday will mark a year since I graduated college, which is mind-boggling to me. But I have learned so much about myself more than I ever thought I would. It’s been a wonderful journey so far!

Here are the five things I’m loving this week. You can check out some of my previous favorite things here and here.

Faithbox No. 2

Favorite things: Faithbox #2

Favorite things: Faithbox #2 contents

After my first Faithbox experience, I couldn’t wait for this month’s box to arrive. May’s box is all about empowerment and how we can give to others less fortunate than us or find an organization that does good work in helping others. I am continually amazed by this start-up Christian organization and the products they find that give back to communities around the world. To join, it’s only $20 a month + $5 shipping and for every box shipped, you give three meals to a child at Christian orphanage. It’s worth every penny.

When I opened my box on Tuesday, I found these items: Everyday Faith monthly devotional, empowerment Impact guide (it tells you all about the cool products you’ve received), Klean Kanteen Steel Cup (to reduce paper waste), Ubuntu reusable coffee sleeve (made by woman in Kenya, enabling them to earn money needed to support their families), Rooted beauty lip butter, Equal Exchange chocolate bar (so delicious!!) and Digital music download by The Brilliance.

Bucket list: Lord Huron tickets

My dreams are coming true! I’ve started to realize that I want to spend my hard, earned money on more experiences, and not just stuff. Stuff weighs us down, but experiences truly lift us up. Lord Huron is one of my favorite indie bands of all time. Something about their music speaks to me, and I feel like it could be the soundtrack to my life. Well I found out they are playing at the House of Blues in New Orleans in June. I immediately bought two tickets for my boyfriend and I! I can’t wait! 🙂 You can listen to them here.

My dad’s Old South blueberries

My dad’s second passion has been three years in the making, and we couldn’t be more happier for him that his hard work is becoming a reality. We have a blueberry farm in Alabama and he’s up there almost every week. Well this week, my mom shared some pictures of the blueberries he picked and they are HUGE and so delicious. My dad will also start selling them in local stores at the end of May and then across Louisiana to larger grocery stores! It’s so awesome to see a simple idea pan out into something much larger. God is good!

My amazing mother

Since Mother’s Day is Sunday and we plan on spending the day packing, I want to give her a shoutout before the day arrives. My mom is seriously the best, like I couldn’t ask for a better one. And I’m so thankful that our faith and life situations have made us closer. But it’s not only our relationship—she is just a wonderful person every day. She always does the right thing and is strong in standing up for her beliefs. She’s kind, patient and always tries to see the best in people before judgment. She’s someone I strive to be like every day and she’s the one person I can turn to when days are dark. I love you, Mom! 🙂

Favorite inspirational quote

quote

As a young person, I sometimes struggle with self-identity and what path I’m supposed to follow here on Earth. I could see myself doing so many different things. But I always have to remember that God will lead me on the path I’m destined for. It may not be easy and I may take a few detours, but ultimately if I trust and follow, he will produce the final outcome. And I’ve finally learned to be OK with God in control. This quote hit home for me because a lot of times, I don’t what I want to do, but I do know what kind of person I want to be.

What are your favorite things this week? Have an awesome weekend!

Thanks, Dara! I love that quote, so I’m glad it resonated with you too! And that’s too funny. The top is actually a bridesmaid set I received for my brother’s wedding. My sister-in-law has great taste! 🙂
