How to wear boyfriend jeans

As we transition into sweater weather, many of our summer/spring staple items get tucked away. Well, I’m making a point to break that habit. Boyfriend jeans can be worn year-round and are very versatile when creating looks. Don’t let anyone tell you any different! It can be done.

So instead of them collecting dust through winter, I’m putting them to good use. These three looks are perfect for transitioning into fall by adding a light sweater, a muted cardigan or a to-die-for leather Moto jacket.

But, a quick side note for everyone who is wary of the beloved boyfriend jean: I wasn’t always a No. 1 fan of the jean. I actually used to feel self-conscious and uncomfortable wearing them because I’m a curvy woman and they are a lighter wash jean. You know what fashion magazines preach to curvy girls: stay away from light wash jeans, they make you look bigger. In some cases, this can be true. But when you find a slouchy, relaxed fit that looks good on you, your perspective can change.

The jeans I’m wearing in all three looks are my Cabi boyfriend jeans from the 2014 spring collection. I absolutely love these and would recommend them to anyone!

Look No. 1 — Casual night out

Hello MOTO! I seriously feel like a rocker chick in this outfit with the ankle boots and my favorite Moto jacket. However, the jeans and t-shirt add an effortless vibe to it and calms things down. The leather Moto jacket is a winter wardrobe staple for me that could take me to a late afternoon lunch or an adventerous night on the town.

These shoes THOUGH. They are my newest find. Once we eyed each other in the shoe department of Dillard’s, I knew it was love.

Look No. 2 — Running around town

The light waffle sweater and coral scarf just makes this outfit so easy to wear when running errands or picking up fresh veggies at the Farmer’s Market. In autumn, I still like to incorporate bright pieces into my wardrobe. Fall doesn’t have to be gloomy and filled with dark colors (even though I’m a fan of navy, olive, gray, the list goes on…of course).

Look No. 3 — Casual Friday at the office

OK, now this look is a way to avoid wearing a t-shirt and jeans to the office on Friday. I mean, TGIF, let’s start the weekend off right! This blouse is one of my favorites because it’s eclectic and well, it really makes a statement. (It has a variety of feathers peppering the front.) I love the button-down blouse + cardigan look with jeans or trousers. It’s a simple ensemble that can really aid you when you’re in a bind to find something to wear.

I hope everyone received a little dose of style inspiration from these looks! My main take away from this is that you don’t always have to follow the rules of fashion. Yes, it’s exciting to try new trends that come out every season, but you can take those bits of inspiration and mold your own style.

So wearing boyfriend jeans into fall and winter? It’s such a DO. I hope you decide to do the same!

P.S. — These pictures were taken in Florida! I went to visit the family for the weekend and we had some gorgeous weather.
