Who’s ready for spring? To me, February has always been an odd month! I’m still trying to hold on to those resolutions I made in January, the weather is strange & I find myself wanting to wear bright colors and sandals all the time. My body is craving warm weather & sun. (I swear I’m Vitamin D deficient, sometimes!) When everything feels just a little out of whack, the one thing I can count on in my closet are transitional pieces. The tried & true, never-let-me-down kind of clothes.
When it comes to in-between seasonal pieces, I look for three things:
- Versatility – Can I wear this piece multiple ways? Ex: A vest or sweater for layering.
- Color – I typically go for soft hues – camel, tan, chambray blue, mauve & gray.
- Quality – Transitional pieces in my closet will usually stay for at least six months out of the year. I wear these items a lot, so it only makes sense to me that they should be great quality. As I’ve grown into my 20s, I now the understand the benefits of quality over quantity. No longer do I need to buy a bunch of clothes every season!
Here are my go-tos for the still-winter/almost-spring season:
Light-Wash Skinnies: A great pair of jeans is a no-brainer. I just got these in a light wash and am obsessed with the fit. (Thanks again, Cabi!)
Outfit Pairing Ideas: I love to tuck a printed blouse into these jeans & throw on a utility jacket. Or I’ll throw on an oversized sweater for a more casual look.
Neutral cardigan: (similar here) I will forever be a cardigan girl. There’s just something about the slouchy, cool-girl vibe that I’m drawn to. This camel-colored cardigan is lightweight, yet still very cozy!
Outfit Pairing Ideas: This cardigan is in heavy rotation right now in my closet! Current everyday uniform: Cardigan + stripe tee + jeans + leather slip-ons.
Lightweight Sweater: (similar here) A lightweight sweater is a must! I love the color of this one – not quite gray, with a hint of lilac. It’s made to be oversized and long, so I can wear it with leggings.
Outfit Pairing Ideas: With leggings & a scarf, duh! Or even layered over a tee dress.
Utility Jacket: (similar here) I’ve had this jacket for years, and it’s so timeless. I love the two-tone details & how it’s reliable for every season. I grab this jacket to wear over literally everything!
Outfit Pairing Ideas: Here’s your formula – Jeans + tee or blouse + cardigan + jacket. Today, it’s striped tee dress + wool cardigan + jacket + scarf.
Stripe Tee: (similar here) I’m a big fan of stripes. They’re the perfect pattern to accompany any outfit & give it that French-girl vibe. I’ve tried a lot of stripe tees, but this is by far my favorite. (Thanks, Cabi!)
Outfit Pairing Ideas: Pair with light-wash skinnies, a cardigan & tan boots. It also look cute tucked into skinny black pants and paired with a black blazer for an office look.
Stripe Blouse: (similar here) Another one of my favorites! The stripes are more subtle with the lighter, spring hues.
Outfit Pairing Ideas: Pair with jeans or skinny trouser pants. Looks adorable with the cardigan or utility jacket.
Chambray button-down: (similar here & here) Levi’s has the best chambray button-downs! This one is so soft & has held up so well after so many wears. It’s look cute worn open, buttoned or even tied up.
Outfit Pairing Ideas: I love a cute denim-on-denim look, or worn with white skinnies as we draw closer to summer. It’s also fun to pair with a stripe tee & leggings.
Lightweight Scarf: A scarf adds a playful touch to any look. I love scarves with pops of colors & sometimes even bold patterns.
Neutral slides: (similar here) These go with everything. They are super comfortable & add a chic minimalist vibe to my outfits. And since they are closed-toe, but open in the back, they are the perfect transitional shoes.
Brown Ankle Booties: My other favorite pair of shoes! Ankle boots like these complete so many looks, from jeans, to leggings & dresses. I can wear them with socks or without. They are well worth the investment & keep me sturdy all day long.
