The weekend is here, readers! You take a big sigh of relief, haha. Summer has been a whirlwind for me from weekend trips to staying busy at work. It’s been so hot here in Mississippi, I tend to hibernate in my apartment, so I’m looking forward to the cooler months ahead. I’m heading home for the weekend to celebrate my Mom’s birthday and help her unpack and (try on) the new Cabi 2016 Fall Collection. Eeek!
It’s been about a month since I’ve highlighted my favorite things, and believe me, there’s been more than five.
Here are some things I’m adoring this week:
Pretty things from Kristen Schmucker
Kristen Smucker’s shop really does have the prettiest things! I couldn’t pass up this cute “Be Still” notepad and the sleek “It Is Well” pen. I love how the sayings are a simple reminder to trust in God every day. From coffee mugs to paper to Bible study tools, her website is filled with great gift ideas!
Faithbox No. 4
Faithbox No. 4 was all about finding that everyday balance in life. The products picked for the box are ones that are supposed to encourage peace, healing and balance in your life. Balance is probably one of my favorite words, guys. It’s mainly because I’m constantly striving to find moderation in all things.
Inside the box was the Humble Brush toothbrush, which is not only cool but great for the planet. For every Humble Brush sold, one toothbrush is donated to people in need of oral care. Next up is the Adamia Therapeutic Repair Lotion. It’s a natural remedy infused with good science. Of course, I already ate This Bar Saves Lives, PB&J flavored, and for every bar purchased, its non-profit partner donates a life-saving packet of food. I also received a $5 coupon for Family Christian Stores and a Faithbox Keep Case, which is eco-friendly and super handy!
New vintage bike
Did I mention that I have the sweetest boyfriend? He has his faults like everyone, but he never ceases to amaze me with how kind and thoughtful he is. This beautiful vintage bike showed up on my doorstep one morning last week. My boyfriend drove around town for most of his lunch break seeking to find the perfect bike for me.
And he sure knows one thing: I love old things with character. After some research via iPhone, we figured out that this bike was manufactured circa 1969…meaning this bike is twice as old as me! It also used to belong to the local police department and still dons its old bike permit. I love it so much and am so happy to have a bike again. We spent the following Saturday riding bikes downtown and then stopping at a pizza place for lunch.
A light lunch: Strawberry basil bruschetta
I love easy, light lunches during the hot summer months. This strawberry basil bruschetta is inspired by the blackberry basil bruschetta from the Love & Lemons cookbook. Sadly, blackberries weren’t on sale at the market this week, so strawberries had to do! The dish is so fresh and tasty, and you could use many other fruits as well like blueberries, raspberries and peaches.
The recipe is super simple for a lunch for one or as a party appetizer. Chop 1/2 cup of strawberries and mix with seal salt, pepper and balsamic vinegar. Toast 2 slices of fresh bread (I used wheat bread) and slice 4 even pieces of fresh mozzarella. Top the toasted bread with mozzarella, strawberry mixture and basil! Yum!
A weekend with the Blues
Don’t you love this photo? My good friend, Mary Sergeant, took it during our fun weekend watching the Blue Angels airshow. Here we were, champagne in hand, relishing every moment of the beautiful blues in the sky. It was a such a great weekend to catch up and have much-needed girl time!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
