How to wear your beloved black dress

I love a great black dress. Too bad it’s really hard for me to find one that does three things: fits & flatters me, makes me feel comfortable and of course, makes me feel like a million bucks.

You might have the same problem. My wish finally came true Christmas weekend when I was out shopping with my mom in Pensacola. We love shopping local and so we stopped in Sobo Boutique, hence you probably know what the store sells—southern bohemian clothing.

Anyways, this store has the cutest dresses, peasant blouses and jewelry for the best prices. And so this is where I stumbled on this beauty: a black flowy dress with a high neck and thick fabric. It’s not even lined and you don’t even have to wear a slip. Unbelievable! And I got this perfect staple for only $40. Such a deal! My mom ended up buying the same dress and wore it New Year’s Eve and looked stunning. You can probably tell that we like the same things. 🙂

No matter where you don your beloved LBD, you can be sure you’re giving off a chic, modern vibe. Here are three ways to get the look:

Fur vest + boho hat >>

For my weekend wardrobe, bohemian looks are my absolute favorite. I love feeling like I’m in a Free People ad hand-in-hand with a handsome male model in a resort in Bali…haha dream on right? I should keep telling myself that. No, but really a fur vest looks so fancy over this dress topped with a maroon fedora hat. It’s perfect for an exciting evening out with friends or family.

The look:

  • Fur vest | Cabi 2014 fall collection
  • Rhinestone belt | H&M
  • Maroon hat | Selphi boutique in Hattiesburg
  • Black booties | Steve Madden
  • Black purse | DSW

Light cardigan + statement jewelry  >>

Fun fact: you can dress the majority of LBDs down for casual weekend wear. Cinched with a brown braided belt, this black dress is ideal for brunch or shopping with your best buds. The fringe cardigan and the statement coin necklace really add some extra pizazz to the look.

The look:

  • Fringe cardigan | hand-me-down from my mom!
  • Braided belt | Ann Taylor Loft
  • Coin necklace | Cabi
  • Ankle boots | Bocage from Paris

Colorful blazer + statement heels >>

Brighten up your workweek with this contrasting look of black and brown. I have no shame when it comes to mixing black and brown and this office look nails it. I kept a simple silhouette but added fun accessories and chic statement shoes.

The look:

  • Blazer | H&M
  • Tassel necklace | Ann Taylor Loft
  • Watch | Kate Spade
  • Glasses | Dior
  • Half-mules shoes | Very Volatile
  • Fringe purse | H&M

Let me know if you liked these looks and what other staple pieces I should style in the future. I’d love to hear your thoughts! And remember, with a great black dress, the options are endless.
